As one enters the home, door hardware by Baltica foretells the quality of this home. Furnishings and art from around the world including Mykonos, Santorini, the Ukraine, Turkey, Spain, Zimbabwe and the Caymans are just some of the design highlights. The entry pavilion leads to an open-air atrium garden reminiscent of an old ancient Chinese Imperial Villa. All rooms surround this atrium which is landscaped with orchids, palms and anthurium. The ever present Ohia tree columns grace the entry pavilion The home office opens by pocket doors into the atrium. This large room could easily be used as a third bedroom. African hardwood floors, Roche Bobois furniture and custom Italian office furniture by Gianni adorn this space. Crown molding and a Rosewood finished ceiling fan grace the ceiling. A JVC television sits atop a Cherry wood cabinet. A leather embossed desk set on the circular pedestal Cherry desk provides the finishing touch to this room.
The Guest Suite with its pocket doors opens to the atrium and the sky. A classic Mediterranean feel exists in this room with furnishings and linens of top quality. The armoire hides another JVC television and DVD. A large walk in closet and additional linen closet insure plenty of storage. The guest bath is huge with twin pedestal sinks and an open feel to the shower. Pocket doors open to a private Kapalua stone enclosure that allows for outdoor showering among palms and anthurium if desired. Thirty feet of pocket doors fold away opening the way to the Great Room which spans from the atrium on one side to the golf course on the other. Giant Ohia beams grace the sixteen-foot ceilings. The Great Room, in true Hawaiian tradition, has separate kitchen, dining, living, media and bar areas. Upon entering the Great Room, a six-foot diameter round glass topped entry table on a pedestal of Kapalua stone greets those who enter. A tropical flower arrangement shooting six to eight feet into the air sits atop this table. The dining area features a sculptured glass table by Roche Bobois, a Turkish rug from Istanbul and a Spanish alabaster chandelier. A marble pedestal with a custom blown glass sculpture from Canada is adjacent to the table. The kitchen is designed for those who love to cook. Dual Fisher Paykel dishwashers, a Sub Zero refrigerator, a Dacor gas cook top and grill, a Dacor convection oven and microwave, sinks both in the island and adjacent to the dishwashers, a R/O water filtration system and storage space that would be difficult to fill because of its immensity, are all part of this gourmet’s delight. An art niche in the kitchen showcases a windswept marble figurehead from Mykonos, Greece. The conversation area of the Great Room features furnishings by Roche Bobois and Ralph Lauren. It gives an understated elegance to the Island feel The Media Area is likewise furnished with Roche Bobois furniture and features a built in 42” True High Definition Panasonic Plasma Screen television. It is integrated with a 6 speaker surround sound system that is built in and discreet.
The Bar Area showcases a granite topped Kapalua stone bar with Ohia trees behind it supporting glass shelves and a large arched mirror reflecting a Corinthian Warrior’s Helmet from Mykonos. Maitland Smith bar stools tell the quality of the furnishings. The bar provides plenty of cabinet space for storage as well as housing the Denon stereo, CD, DVD and satellite television components.
The Master Suite is approximately 1000 square feet and is entered from the Great Room through custom made arched doors with Baltica hardware. Upon entering, the incredible balance to the design is immediately evident. An African feel abounds. Slowly revolving rattan ceiling fans, palms, a zebra skin rug from Zimbabwe and giant sea turtle shell from the Cayman Islands hanging on the wall provide design elements rarely seen in Hawaii. Maitland Smith furnishings include a Coconut wood leather chaise, leather topped gold embossed rattan desk, leather covered chest end table, patina finished embossed metal-topped chest and table and an intricately carved armoire housing a JVC television and DVD. The king sized “Hemingway” woven bed has views of the gas fireplace with antique wooden mantle and the Island of Molokai. Ohia beams grace the 14 foot vaulted ceiling. Cove lighting and the fireplace give this room an ambiance at night that is magical.
Blown glass wall sconces from Santorini adorn the archway that leads to the Master bath. This bath is so large, most homes would be happy to have it for a living room. A Carrerra marble artist sculpted wall plaque and basin from Mykonos weighing over three hundred pounds sit above the in floor sunken tub surrounded with tumbled marble. Dual “his and hers” vanities sit in opposite corners featuring marble counter tops. Etched glass by a famous local artist adorns the door to the atrium and the shower. Immense pocket doors fold away revealing a tropical outdoor shower that connects to the bathroom. Showering indoors or out, the Kapalua stonewalls provide privacy. Archways lead to the “his and her” walk in closet which are connected privately. Built in cabinetry and linen closet complete the walk in with its New Zealand wool carpet. The Powder Room is entered from the Atrium through an etched glass door. Copper fixtures and an “art glass” surface mounted sink detail this room.
The laundry room has abundant storage, accessory refrigerator and a commercial style front-loading washer and dryer.
The dedicated Wine Room is temperature and humidity controlled with a Breezeair commercial wine cooling unit. It has approximately a 600 bottle racking system with an antique “Balinese” tasting table.
The garage is finished in the same Imperial plaster as the home and has an epoxy paint finished flooring. A storage area in the garage houses the water heater with its recirculating pump for immediate hot water throughout the home
The outdoor lanais are huge. The Italian porcelain “Powerstone” flooring flows from the entry, through the atrium and Great Room onto the poolside covered lanai. This area provides for outdoor dining. The driveway and poolside lanai are stamped concrete creating the look of tile.
